Jason Gillespie confirms arrival in Pakistan, soon to guide domestic cricket as well
Recently, Jason Gillespie, the red-ball coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team, highlighted the importance of consistency, discipline, and a team-oriented approach to achieving success. The former Australian pace bowler stressed the need to manage players' workloads effectively to prevent burnout.
Gillespie, who now heads the red-ball coaching staff alongside Gary Kirsten for white-ball cricket, expressed his intention to collaborate with Kirsten on workload management. He mentioned plans to organize a training camp for test players in Pakistan, emphasizing the need for a rotation policy to prevent player exhaustion.
The coach emphasized the significance of having a squad mentality and ensuring players are well-prepared for matches. He discussed the importance of utilizing various tools to assess player suitability for different conditions and opponents. Gillespie underlined the need for players to be at their peak performance levels to represent Pakistan effectively.
He acknowledged the challenges of coaching the Pakistan team, emphasizing the importance of discipline, consistency, and work ethic. Gillespie expressed confidence in the team's potential and stressed the need for continuous improvement. He emphasized the unique identity of the Pakistan team and the importance of learning from each game to enhance performance.
Gillespie recognized the fans as a crucial support system for the team, urging them to stand by the players through good and bad times. He emphasized the role of supporters as the team's "12th man" and highlighted the positive impact of fan encouragement on player morale and performance.
In response to a question, Gillespie acknowledged the challenges that come with coaching Pakistan but said he is going into the role with realistic expectations. Discussing Pakistan's chances to finish in the top two of the ICC Test Championship, Gillespie said Pakistan will take it one series at a time. Gillespie added, "I mentioned discipline, I mentioned consistency because the talent is there, the skills are there, can we marry up that talent with the work ethic desire, attitude, all these things to make sure that we're giving ourselves the best chance to be successful and I'm confident we can. We want to make sure that we're the best-prepared team that we can possibly be."
Gillespie concluded, "I'm not going to come in and say we need to play like an Australian team. I want us to play like a Pakistan team. And if we can take some lessons from each and every time, we play against any team, little bits of information that can help us be a better team.” Gillespie recognizes supporters as Pakistan's "12th man" and asks them to stand by the team through good and bad. "I want the fans to be proud of this team and be very supportive through thick and thin. If we can have the Pakistan supporters celebrating the team and being part of the team that will certainly help us be successful. There's no doubt that our supporters can be our 12th man, who will be a real great support for the boys, through thick and thin, through good times and bad, if the players know that the supporters are there for them and excited to see the team do well, then you watch the players will really feed off that.”
